Margaret
Mary Pamela Flach
b. 5 May 1921 d. 13 Oct 1950
'Peggy'
Only daughter of Gabriel and Elizabeth Flach, born at Highgate on the 5th
May,1921. Educated at Manor House Convent, Finchley, followed by Secretarial
training at Pitman's College.
In her teens she attended a Red Cross training course, and did voluntary
work helping out at Finchley Memoria1 Hospital. Her secretarial qualifications
got her a job with Messrs. Rowntree & Co Ltd in their London Sales Office,
one of the perks being she could purchase chocolate mis-shapes and broken
chocolate at very cheap prices which the family appreciated.
During World War 2 she was called up to serve in the A.T.S with the rank of
private and on being assessed she was posted to Northampton as a Shorthand
Typist.
In 1949 whilst enjoying a promenade concert at The Albert Hall, she found
she was seeing double. The family doctor called in a consultant and it was
found that she had a tumour on the brain. She was operated on at Hill End
Hospital at St. Albans and this was followed by Radio Therapy with the loss of
all of her hair. After many months she returned to work and later went on a
holiday to France with her brother Tony, visiting Chateaux of the Loire,
Bourges, Nevers and Annecy. In 1950 the tumour flared up and with no further
operation possible she passed away peacefully in Barnet Hospital on 13th
October 1950. May she rest in peace.
