James Francis Frederick Flach

James was the eldest child of Joseph and Eva and spent much of his education abroad in Germany and France, being fluent in these languages. At 22 years of age his father died and he took over the running of the firm and the support of his mother and younger brothers and sisters.
In 1915 he married Lillie Schwar and they had six children between 1916 and 1936. In 1939 they moved to 13 Park Hill in Ealing where they stayed for the remainder of their lives. James continued to work until his 70th birthday, though not going in to work every day in the latter years.
James enjoyed travelling and went for many holidays on the continent - to Italy, Belgium, France and Spain - in the days when you waved at every English car you saw and foreign travel was not the norm. He enjoyed good food and wine and had the connections abroad to enable him to import wine by the barrel and get it bottled over here. The cellar at No 13 was well stocked. He also enjoyed his garden and stamp collecting.
