Maureen Frogatt (Titford)

b. 24 Nov 1938 m. 18 Aug 1965 David Froggatt

Froggatt Family: Maureen, David, James and Antonia

Maureen and David, having met in London, married in 1965 and set up home in Heaton Moor, Stockport as David was then a Lecturer in Business Studies at Salford University. Maureen found a secretarial job at the University of Manchester.

By the beginning of the 1970's James and Antonia had arrived on the scene and David had left the academic world for that of business, joining T & N plc at their head office in Manchester where he became Group Economist. A house move a few years later took the family only a short distance to the other side of `the Moor'. At this time the yearly trip to Croydon to see Mum/grandma and to get to know cousins Timothy and Alison, plus visits to Froggatt grandparents in Blackpool and summer holidays in North Wales were the pattern of family life.

Through the 1980's school life and various activities took over: Antonia enjoyed ballet classes and gymnastics and became a cadet with St. John Ambulance while James took up cross-country running and orienteering. David meanwhile took up road running and completed several marathons. Maureen returned to work at Manchester University part-time after eleven years at home.

Then in Autumn 1988 the great exodus took place when in a single day and a single journey David, in a hired van to accommodate possessions and bicycles, deposited James at Bristol Poly for his degree in Fine Art and Antonia at Southampton University where she took a degree in Civil Engineering. Maureen celebrated this freedom from family responsibilities the following summer with a trip to the United States to visit Michael and Rebecca and to meet Zachary, Kate and Joshua for the first time.

Time moves on and family life changes again. James now lives in Didsbury and works in Manchester for Unity Health Care. In his spare time he is a keen cyclist, taking part in local and national distance events and time trials and, in 1999 completing the Paris-Brest-Paris event. Antonia is building her life and career in Southampton, having joined Hampshire Police. After completing the required two years `on the beat' and working in police stations in Southampton and Portsmouth she gained the rank of Inspector and has recently been appointed to a staff post at Hampshire Police HQ in Winchester.

David and Maureen, both now retired, are enjoying their change of lifestyle, the first `highlight' of which has been another trip to the US to visit both David's sister and her family in Rhode Island and of course to spend time with the family in Fairhope; all this with the added bonus of plenty of time to recover from jet lag.
